BAT
TESTING PROCEDURE
NOTE: You as an official have the right to remove a
bat from the game at any time for safety.
REQUESTING A BAT FOR TESTING
UMPIRE REQUEST: You have the right to request from a
batter his or her bat be submitted for testing.
OPPONENT
REQUEST: The opposing
team may request that a bat be tested.
In order for this to occur they must inform the umpire of said request
and must pay a $50 fee (CASH) at the time of request. Advise the individual submitting
the fee, that if the bat passes they will not be refunded any of the fee and that if the bat fails they will be refunded $40 of
their fee. You must
get their name and contact number as well.
NOTE
TO BATTER: You must inform the batter that you are
requesting their bat be submitted for
testing to see if the bat meets the bat compression standards
prescribed by USSSA. They are not being
accused of altering the bat.
PROCEDURE
FOR TAKING THE BAT
1. Umpire
will immediately take possession of the bat, noting the players name on the
lineup card. Secure the bat in your car
or safe place and inform the player that you will advise them after the game
the testing process and return of their bat. (Delay game as little as
possible).
2. After
the game, the Umpire will contact one of the Officers of CNY Umpires as soon as
possible informing them (player submitted bat or refused),
and arrangements will be made to get the submitted bat from you for testing.
3. Complete
the required form with the player and inform them that the bat will be tested
within 24 hours and they will be contacted with results and arrangements will
be made to return the bat.
DATA
BASE
1. Central
New York Umpires Association will maintain a data base, along with a picture of
all those bats’ that do not pass the bat compression test.
